Homologado no país como uma motocicleta, o “Spyder”, como é chamado pelos canadenses da Bombardier, foi lançado nos Estados Unidos em outubro do ano passado. Por lá o triciclo é muito disputado, tendo uma fila de espera de até seis meses. O Spyder inaugura um novo conceito de veículo motorizado, mesclando características de uma moto, como agilidade, com os atributos de um automóvel, como a segurança. O motor V2 de 998 cilindradas, desenvolvido pela austríaca Rotax, garante 106 cv a 8.500 rpm e 10,6 kgfm de torque a 6.250 giros. A transmissão manual de cinco marchas (mais a ré) é acionada como a de uma motocicleta convencional, com o pé esquerdo, que por sua vez envia a força para a roda traseira. Um dos grandes atributos do Can-Am Spyder é o sistema VSS (Vehicle Stability System), que consiste em seis sensores que analisam as condições de rodagem do veículo 25 vezes por segundo, enviando os dados para os sistemas de controle eletrônico de tração e estabilidade, que atuam quando necessário. Além disso, o triciclo conta também com freios ABS com EBD (distribuição de frenagem).
